Massage - an easy way to Detox
Yes, its true...massage detoxifies.
In particular massage helps maintain the bodies tone and condition, helps prevent injury, helps rehabilitation of injury, increases range of movement, increases performance and adds longevity your performance. It also assists in the breakdown of cellulite, brings new nutrients to your skins surface giving you radiant, replenished looking skin - and all you have to do is lie back and enjoy!
Massage aids all of the above as the pressure created by the massage technique actually moves blood through the congested areas, whilst breaking down these areas of conjestion (also known as knots). The release of this same pressure causes new blood to flow in filling these once deprived areas with nutrients and oxygen rich blood to nourish and repair these tissues (which is why red patches, called erythema appear when you have a massage). Stretching, squeezing and pulling also flushes lactic acid (what causes muscle soreness after exercising) from the muscles and improves the lymph circulation (lymph is a fluid which carries metabolic waste, debris and toxins away from body tissues), resulting in lower blood pressure and improved body functions.
For those of you not used to a regular massage can be common to experience a headache post treatments, don't worry, its just the bodies way of dealing with the toxins that have been released... as any masseuse will tell you - drink plenty of water pre and post treatment.
Watch out for more (yes there's more) beneifts of massage in my next post!
